Dinner in 5 Minutes, or Less

Eating frozen, pre-made meals for dinner each night may not be your idea of a healthy meal plan. Don't worry, it's not my favorite approach either. However, sometimes you are left with so little time & resources, they're your only option! For that reason, they can be great.


The key with frozen meals is to ensure they're nutritionally balanced. Here are our goals, per serving: <800 mg sodium, 21+g protein, 30-45g carbohydrate, 10-15g fat and made primarily with whole grains.  


Here are a few of my favorites to keep on hand, just in case you need a quick healthy meal:


1. Artisan (Organic) Bistro

Varieties that Work: Ginger Chicken, Savory Turkey, Chicken Citron, Spiced Chicken Morocco, Grass-Fed Beef w/Mushroom Sauce

Where to Find Them: Whole Foods


2. Lean Cuisine Honestly Good

Varieties that Work: Honey Citrus Chicken, Lemongrass Salmon, Roasted Red Pepper Chicken, Pineapple Black Pepper Beef

Where to Find Them: Fred Meyer

3. CedarLane

Varieties that Work: Egg-white Frittatas Broccoli & Cheddar variety and Spinach & Roasted Tomato variety, Spinach & Mushroom Egg-white Omelet

Where to Find Them: Safeway, Whole Foods, Albertson's, Fred Meyer, PCC

4. Kashi Frozen Entrees

Varieties that Work: Chicken Florentine, Chicken Pasta Pomodoro, Lemongrass Coconut Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken

Where to Find Them: Target, Whole Foods, PCC

5. Open Nature Safeway Brand

Varieties that Work: Shrimp Alfredo, Chicken Alfredo, Chicken Enchiladas, Chicken Pesto

Where to Find Them: Safeway

6. Lyfe Kitchen

Varieties that Work: Chili Chicken Verde

Where to Find Them: Safeway, Amazon Fresh

7. Lean Cuisine Steamer Meals/Culinary Collection

Varieties that Work: Chicken Alfredo, Garlic Chicken, Chicken Margherita, Chicken Poblano. Culinary Collection: Chicken in Peanut Sauce, Chicken Carbonara, Roasted Turkey w/Vegetables, Steak Tips Portabello

Where to Find Them: Safeway, QFC, Fred Meyer, Albertson's, Target


Remember, these don't have to be every day. But they sure do make an easy dinner (better than no dinner!) for those super busy weeknights!
