Healthy Foods for Game Day, Part 2

Keep cheering on those Hawks (and enjoying those tailgating parties) with easy, healthy foods like these! Last week we reviewed protein options, so this week we will complete the menu:


1. Coleslaw

The Old Choice: Marie’s Coleslaw, 2 tbsp= 140 cals, 13g fat, 170mg sodium, 7g carb, 0g protein

The New Choices:

  • PCC Deli Arame Coleslaw, 1/4 lb.=80 cals, 6g fat, 150mg sodium, 8g carb, 1g protein
  • 5-ingredient Homemade Slaw: 1 package shredded cabbage, 1/4 c sliced scallions, 1/2 tsp caraway seeds, 1 tsp black pepper ground and 1/4 c. Litehouse Light Coleslaw dressing. 1/3 recipe= 75 cals, 2g fat, 12g carb, 175mg sodium, 1g protein


2. Chips'n'dip

The Old Choice: Tostito's Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips, 12 chips= 260 cals, 12g fat, 210mg sodium, 34g carb, 4g protein with PCC Deli Zesty Queso Dip, 1/4c= 180 cals, 16g fat, 10g saturated fat, 400mg sodium, 2g carb, 7g protein


The New Choices:

  • Beanfield's Bean Chips Sea Salt Variety, 1 oz=140 cals, 5g fat, 160mg sodium, 18g carb, 4g fiber, 4g protein
  • Food Should Taste Good Multigrain Chips, 1oz= 140 cals, 6g fat, 80mg sodium, 18g carb, 3g fiber, 3g protein
  • Special K Sea Salt Cracker Chips, 1oz= 110 cals, 2.5g fat, 230mg sodium, 23g carb, 3g fiber, 2g protein


  • Trader Joe's Cilantro & Chive Greek Yogurt Dip, 2 Tbsp=50 cals, 4g fat, 75mg, 1g carb, 1g protein
  • Otria Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip Spinach & Artichoke, 2 tbsp=60 cals, 4.5g fat, 190mg sodium, 2g carb, 2g protein
  • Wholly Guacamole Mini's, 1 container=100 cals, 9g fat, 170mg sodium, 5g carb, 3g fiber, 1g protein


3. Brownies

The Old Choice: Betty Crocker Original Supreme Brownie Mix, 1/16 pkg prepared= 160 cals, 6g fat, 100mg sodium, 27g carb, 1g protein

The New Choices:

  • 20/20 Ice Box Cocoa Truffles, 2 truffles= 138 cals, 5.5g fat, 97mg sodium, 13g carb, 8.5g protein
  • Kashi Soft-Baked Cookies Oatmeal Dark Chocolate, 1 cookie=130 cals, 5g fat, 65mg sodium, 20g carb, 2g protein
  • Bear Naked Soft-Baked Granola Cookies Double Chocolate, 1 cookie=130 cals, 5g fat, 60mg sodium, 20g carb, 2g protein


4. Alcohol*

The Old Choice: Regular Beer, 12 fl oz= 150 cals, 0g fat, 14mg sodium, 13g carb, 1g protein  

The New Choices:

  • Raspberry Refresher (1 part raspberry juice, 1 part lemon-lime sparkling water, lemon wedge to taste),
  • Citrus 'Mocktail' (1 part orange/pineapple juice blend, 1 part plain sparkling water, orange wedges to taste)
  • Half-n-Half Sangria (1 part wine, 1 part sparkling peach or raspberry flavored sparkling water, peach chunks and berries to taste)
  • Light Beer, 12 fl oz= 100 cals, 0g fat, 14mg sodium, 6g carb, 1g protein


With an array of easy, healthy but delicious and semi-traditional foods like these, you are sure to have a great tailgating time with friends & family this football season!
