Lost 82 pounds
Completed Program October 2004
I wanted to lose weight and was very confused by all the advice I was given. 20/20 Lifestyles was such a comprehensive plan that I decided it was the best way for me to approach my very much needed weight loss.
I’ve learned quite a few things while in 20/20 – what portion sizes are and how to control them and that I was a sugar junkie before the program. I’m chemically balanced now and I can eat in a balanced way. I’ve learned how to incorporate exercise into my day and now I’m committed to working out at least 5 times a week.
What I liked best about 20/20 Lifestyles was all the support throughout the program. At least 4 times a week I would either see my trainer or my dietitian. Layered on top of that were follow ups with my 20/20 physician and psychologist that just helped to bind it all together, and reinforced ideas. I needed to be held accountable for not just my eating, but for my exercise as well. Other programs that I looked into highly recommended exercise, but they didn’t have a good plan to make sure it was being done. I don’t think I could have lost ll my weight with just eating right.
As a result of the program, my kitchen is now stocked with healthy items. I now make actual, balanced meals. I used to graze a lot, especially at night, without putting a dinner together. I’m much better at meal planning. My mornings now start at the gym and not at the coffee shop to get a pick-me-up of caffeine. I also want to walk to more places rather than drive and have a lot more energy now.
With my new energy I am now a runner! I’ve entered three 5ks and one 10k this year. I also ran a ½ marathon in April. I actually like to run and didn’t think I would ever be someone that could run a couple miles a day, let alone one mile. When I started the program, walking was pretty much a chore for me. If you had to walk around carrying 80 pounds, you would be tired too!
This program has also made an impact of my family. They have seen that a little determination, proper eating and exercise can make a difference. They aren’t quite ready to join me in running and triathlons, but they are entering in more walking races and preparing for them. Every holiday when we all get together for a meal, they are always interested to see what I’ll bring to the meal. They haven’t been disappointed so far. They are all so happy to see me doing so much more and are amazed at what I have been able to accomplish. I’ve never been the athletic one in the family (until now). Whenever they see old photos of me they always say, “I just don’t remember you ever being that large!”
