Ed

Age: 53

Lost: 121 pounds

Early in my adult years, I had an active lifestyle. But as the years went by, it turned into a spectator lifestyle, sitting on the sidelines and watching my kids’ sporting events. I had difficulty standing for long periods of time, had limited walking stamina, and suffered from a torn ligament in my knee. I had to plan where I was going to sit down to rest whenever I walked anywhere and I knew where every elevator was at the PRO Club. Several years of being sedentary also took a toll on my health as well. I had high blood pressure and was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I started to see my body deteriorate physically.

However, since completing the 20/20 Lifestyles program, my life has changed dramatically. I’m 100 times more active than I was before. When I feel tired, it’s a good tired, not the kind of tired that comes from not doing anything. My personal trainer has really helped build my stamina. When I first started, I could only do five minutes on the Stairmill. Now, I can do 60 minutes straight through on my cardio days. I don’t have to call for a shuttle to get around the Microsoft campus because I can walk again. I can walk 10K without having to stop at every bench to sit along the way.

In fact, my wife and I have the goal of walking 10K’s in all 39 counties in Washington State. So far, we’ve completed 14 walks and have seen beautiful scenery as well as some historical sites. We’ve had a good time. When you’re walking, you get to see things that you wouldn’t if you were just driving by. I’m learning a lot of history thanks to 20/20 Lifestyles. It’s given me a new lease on life.

I’m 100 times more active than I was before.

Ed's Healthy Tips

  • Make a commitment to your health. I set this program as a priority in my life and made sure my calendar was clear so I could make all of my workouts and meetings.
  • Get your partner to join you so you’re not tempted to stray off the diet. My wife and I shop together, purchasing our groceries in portion sizes for our meals so we no longer have leftovers.
  • Maximize your time with your trainer. I feel this was one key to my success. I do this by getting me cardio done before my session.
